I have learned to read the reviews closely on the freebies, as my time has more value than money. This was definitely worth the time invested, as well as, the headache and neck pain from having to read it in one sitting. After reading the second book, I see the pattern now for this series, which is 4 strong peers of the realm, finding 4 very special (and kick-ass) women. I am really looking forward to the next 2.Just as an aside, even though there is great chemistry, if you are looking for erotica, you will not find it in this book. Also, some of the reviews compared this to the first in the series, but I could not. The stories are "apples and oranges". They are set in different venues (i.e. English society vs the French and Scottish countryside), and I believe it will be the up to individual reader's preference, or love of diversity.

I liked this book a lot. It relied on a standard plot device, the Big Secret, but the heroine who kept this secret was quite compelling. She kept her secret not to save herself or family members from public humiliation but to save her community. I enjoyed the book so much I even ordered the next one in the series, something I almost never do. Highly recommended.
I so like this series and can't wait to see what trouble the others get in to. Love these characters and the plot of this story. It was so touch and go there for a bit. Looking forward to reading the next installment.
I love to book one it's the reason I bought this one. But having read book one the inconsistencies between the two storylines was disappointing, because this book deserves so much more than three stars. I am still getting book 3; I love the characters and the story, I just hope for a little more consistency in the next edition.
I like the first two books enough that I've purchased the third. Even though I usually like a steamier story, I like that there is plenty of adventure and the characters are well developed. I like the relationship between the four kings and the heroines are strong and striving to make a positive difference in their world.
Great story! I loved all the characters especially of course the H and h. I will say I wish there was an epilogue. The hero was big, fierce and in my mind handsome. The heroine was smart, resourceful and persistent. This book to me seems like it was 2 parts. Because the characters met and parted, then came back together under different circumstances. But the story was full of action with an interesting plot.
Full reviews as to details have been given. What I want to add is that I've really enjoyed the first 2 books in this series and am looking forward to the next. I like the strong heroine and the connection between the H/H. The secondary characters were entertaining as well. Romance was in bloom in this story, as in the other in the series. Very fun read. No distasteful scenes or story lines, just an enjoyable read.
I enjoy historical romances and am finding this series quite enjoyable. There were a few minor spelling/grammatical errors but they in no way detracted from the story. The H, Ash, is one of four friends known as the 4 Kings. Their story begins in book 1, Blood for Ink, which sets up the backdrop for book 2 and Ash's story. There were minor characters introduced in the first book who reappear here so, while these can be read on their own, it's best to read them in order. The heroines are strong willed and advocate for those unable to obtain justice for themselves. The heroes (the 4 Kings) are fair minded, ready to help those in need and take longer than their friends to find out their lady love's secrets. All of this, mixed with entertaining discourses between H and h make for enjoyable and entertaining reading.
